A long time ago, in a Poway High parking lot not very far away…
I grew up in Poway in a big family. If you were around town in the ’70s and ’80s, you probably knew a Battle. There were a lot of us. The line for the bathroom proved it. A family like that teaches you early: neighbors matter, own your mistakes, and don’t waste time on stuff that doesn’t.
When I wasn’t at home with the family, I was on a BMX bike or a skateboard. If there was a hill, a dirt trail or a drainage ditch between Poway Road and Mt. Woodson, I probably rode it.
I didn’t know it then, but I was learning the land. Where water runs after a storm. Which canyons back right up to the backyards. Where the ground squirrels dig and where the gophers move in when the hills dry out. That’s pest control knowledge. I just thought I was going fast. Here’s more on pest control in Poway.
Then UCSD
At UCSD I got into chemistry and how environments actually work. Translation: I don’t spray and hope. I know what a material does, how long it lasts in our sun and sea air, and why a little in the right spot beats a lot everywhere.
Then real estate
Then I sold homes for a while. A rodent in the attic isn’t just gross; it’s the thing the inspector finds two weeks before closing. A gopher-wrecked yard is curb appeal with craters. I’ve been on the other end of that phone call.
Then I worked for the Empire
I spent 12 years at one of the big pest companies in San Diego. Learned a ton. Also saw the shortcuts: fifteen minutes per house, the same material on every property, and nobody telling the family what just went down where the kids play.
I knew North County deserved better than that.
So I started Battle Pest Control
Simple idea: one local guy with deep roots, the right technique for each property, and an extra set of eyes on your place year-round. Broken vent screen, branch on the roof, sprinkler leak throwing an ant party? I’ll tell you, even when it’s not my job.
Thousands of homes in, here’s what I know: every property is its own puzzle. Spray-everything-and-leave is old school, and it’s how you get too much of the wrong material and the same ants next month. I’d rather figure out your house.
I pick materials and placement with kids and pets in mind. I tell you what I used and how long to stay off it. And I’m the one who shows up, every single time.
It’s the same way I was raised. Look out for your community. Take responsibility for your work. Focus on what actually matters. That’s how the Battle family did things in Poway, and it’s how Battle Pest Control does things now.
